Cobb County Government offices will be closed Friday, March 29. The Good Friday holiday allows our staff members additional time to spend with their friends, family and loved ones for the holiday weekend. Cobb Libraries will also be closed Sunday, March 31, for Easter.

Clerk's office looking to hire Tuesday
The Cobb County Superior Court Clerk's Office will hold a job fair 9 a.m. - noon Tuesday, March 26, at the jury assembly room. All positions are available. Attendees should bring their resumes. The clerk’s office maintains the official records of the court, including real estate records. The Superior Court jury assembly room is located at 70 Haynes Street, Marietta.
Code amendments to have final public hearing
A final public hearing is scheduled 7 p.m., March 26,for proposed amendments to the Official Code of Cobb County. These proposals impact Chapter 50 (Environment), Chapter 110 (Subdivisions), Chapter 122 (Utilities), Chapter 126 (Vehicles for Hire), and Chapter 134 (Zoning). The public hearing on the proposals will be held in the second-floor Commissioners’ Meeting Room, Cobb County Building, 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta.
The South Cobb Aquatic Center will reopen March 31 after getting a facelift. The next Cobb pool to close for improvements is the Central Aquatic Center, 520 Fairground Street SE, Marietta. Renovations for the centers include resurfacing the pool, painting of the natatorium and replacing pool gutters.

Spring Break fun for the family
Cobb Senior Services is sponsoring a free Spring Break Family Day 10:30 a.m. - noon Monday, April 1, at the Freeman Poole Senior Center. Bring family members of any age (round up the grandchildren) for a fun event.
Meet local author Kelly Young-Silverman and enjoy her new picture book “Hot Boiled Peanuts: A Georgia Food Tour.” Experience the library on wheels with a visit from Cobb Library’s bookmobile. Join Cobb PARKS staff for a family-friendly craft, then grab some savory snacks and ice cream before you go. Registration is required. The center is located at 4025 South Hurt Road, Smyrna.
Rid yourself of hard-to-recycle plastics 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the old BrandsMart parking lot, 3305 Busbee Drive, Kennesaw. Keep Cobb Beautiful will be taking away items like Styrofoam, bubble wrap, and plastic utensils. If you want to recycle electronics, appliances, metals, and shred paper, bring those items to the next KCB recycling event 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Jim Miller Park. Click here for more recycling information.
Art festival blooms in two weeks
Cobb PARKS will hold its first Spring Arts Festival 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at the Jim R. Miller Park and Event Center in Marietta. More than 100 vendors are signed up to display their wares and talents at the event.
Vets, seniors can appreciate a free haircut Thursday
Veterans and community members 55 or older can get a quick haircut for free 10 a.m., Thursday, March 28, at the North Cobb Senior Center, 3900 South Main Street, Acworth. The cuts, given by Kindred Barber and Beauty Academy are part of the monthly Veteran Connection meeting. Space is limited. Former service members meet each month at Cobb's senior centers for Veterans Connections which offers camaraderie and special guest presentations.
It's your lucky month at Cobb Animal Services. All dogs 40 pounds or more are free to adopt during March. All other pets (dogs less than 40 pounds and all cats) cost just $30. Animal Services is located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta. Appointments are preferred for adoptions.
The deadline to apply for homestead exemptions is almost here. Use the online form at CobbTax.org to submit a 2023 homestead exemption application. Applications must be received or USPS postmarked by April 1 to be accepted for this tax year.
Homestead exemptions are deducted from the assessed value of the qualifying property (40% of the fair market value). Exemptions only apply to homestead property you own and occupy as your legal residence. You can have a homestead exemption on only one property. If you are married, by law you can only have one homestead exemption between you and your spouse.
Major traffic reroute to continue through next month
State Route 280/South Cobb Drive is closed near Dobbins Air Reserve Base for seven more weeks. A section of the road from Fairground Street SE to US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway is blocked off for a full culvert replacement.
Drivers should avoid SR 280/South Cobb Drive - Follow signs to the recommended detour route: US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway SE, SR 120/South Marietta Parkway SE and Fairground Street SE. A secondary route for motorists has also been identified to assist with navigation in the area. Motorists can use US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway SE, SR 120/South Marietta Parkway SE and Atlanta Street SE.
Cobb County will hold its first Sustainability Forum and Expo for the general public 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. The free event will include demonstrations, food, interactive exhibits and guest speakers on green initiatives. Keep Cobb Beautiful will provide the first 100 attendees with a free gift.
Order now for the UGA Cobb Extension's annual Vidalia Sweet Onion Sale. It's a tangy sweet way to support UGA Extension's Agriculture Department in Cobb County. Each 10-pound bag is $12 and comes fresh from the field of Morris Farm in Vidalia, Ga.
You can also donate onions to help those in need. The Extension Office has partnered with Mary's Food Pantry, a part of the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Ann Catholic Church to help provide fresh produce to families and individuals in need throughout the metro Atlanta area. Last year they were able to donate more than 600 pounds of onions.
Pre-orders are accepted until Wednesday, April 17, by mail (postmarked by April 15).
Customers will pick-up their onions Saturday May 18, or earlier at the office at 678 S. Cobb Drive, Suite 200, Marietta.
