The Board of Commissioners has rescheduled its public hearing for proposed 2024 Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map amendments to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta.
The plan identifies the county's needs during the next 20 years and establishes goals and policies for officials. The land use map helps guide future development. The hearing will be in the second floor meeting room, Cobb County Building A, 130 Cherokee Street, Marietta.
Join the Cobb County Police Department 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, as officials cut the ribbon for the K-9 Unit's brand-new annex in Marietta.
The building, located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, is named for District 3 Commissioner JoAnn K. Birrell because of her ongoing support for K-9 officers and the program.
Emergency operators exceeded the standard
In 2023, Cobb County's team of 911 professionals processed a new record of 905,292 calls. The department also exceeded the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) call-answering standard by answering 91.70% of incoming emergency calls in under 15 seconds!
Officials expressed pride in team members and their work to keep Cobb County safe as they navigated staffing challenges that affect many emergency communications centers nationwide.

Low to moderate-income taxpayers can get free assistance with preparing their taxes from AARP Tax Aide certified counselors Feb. 1 - April 15. Appointments are required. You do not need to be a senior or a member of AARP.
Start the year fresh by cleaning out your craft closet and bringing up to two boxes of new or gently-used arts and crafts supplies to the West Cobb Library noon - 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 (set-up beginning at 10 a.m.). If you are just looking to try a new craft without spending a lot on supplies, the swap event will be open to the public to come in and browse through the donated materials.
Registration is not required to browse the materials, however, those bringing supplies should fill out the form below to ensure the library has enough space. Supplies must be brought on the day of the event, and any unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the day.
Join the Cobb County Police Department at a hiring event 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 27 - 28 at Police Headquarters, 545 S. Fairground Street, Marietta. Ask questions, take a physical agility test, interview with a detective and take other steps to get you on your way to a career in law enforcement. Whether you're an aspiring officer or considering a lateral move, we encourage you to come prepared and ask questions.
Learn about radon in a safety education workshop at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Switzer Library in Marietta. Learn where radon comes from, how it is tested and how it affects health. Attendees will receive a free radon test kit. The presentation will be led by Derek Cooper, UGA Extension Radon Educator, College of Family and Consumer Sciences. The second public information meeting for the Cumberland Transit Center Site Feasibility Study will take place 5 - 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Boy Scouts of America Atlanta Area Council in Atlanta. Officials have narrowed down the possible locations for the future Cumberland Transit Center. Residents are invited to come out and provide their input on the site options.
