Cobb County Department of Transportation will be closing Oak Ridge Road – from Panda Lane to Ivy Log Drive – beginning Wednesday,March 6, until Tuesday, March 26. This road will be closed to through traffic and restricted to local business and residential traffic only.
This closure is necessary to complete emergency drainage work. As part of this closure, crews will reconstruct the curb and gutter, as well as the sidewalk and pavement impacted by the repairs.
For the duration of this road closure, motorists should use North Blair Bridge Road as a detour route. For more information on road closures and lane closures in Cobb County, please visit CobbCommute.org.
Library book sale opens Friday
The spring library book sale will be open for business at the Cobb Civic Center starting 9 a.m. Friday, March 8, through Sunday, March 10. Materials offered will include books for all ages in both hardcover and paperback, DVDs, Blu-rays, books on CD and audiocassette, magazines and more. Prices range from 10 cents to $4 per item. Free parking is available at the Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta.
Hours for the sale are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 - 5 p.m. Sunday. Acceptable forms of payment are debit, credit, cash, and checks – Visa and MasterCard only. On Friday, until 1 p.m., electronic (scanning) devices are not permitted. Customers can only buy a maximum of two boxes of items at a time on Friday until 1 p.m. Please plan to pay and take items to your vehicle before coming in to shop some more.

Move quickly to register for summer camp
Cobb County summer camps are the hot ticket for summer fun. There are general activity camps and there are specialty camps for just about every interest.
Registration opens Wednesday, March 6, for camps at Cobb rec centers, arts centers, tennis centers, and in Natural Resources, golf, gymnastics and Therapeutics. See all Cobb County camps here.

Final chance to vote early this week
Friday is the last day to vote early, in-person, for the March Presidential Preference Primary at several locations around the county. Some locations also have drop boxes where absentee voters may turn in completed ballots. The last day of advance voting is March 8.
On Election Day, March 12, voters MUST go to their assigned polling location, which will be open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Learn the stories of nurses in Vietnam
Celebrate Women's History Month with a free and inspiring look at the heroism of Vietnam War nurses 10:30 -11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at the North Cobb Senior Center. Former Army Nurse Donna Rowe, the first female inductee in the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame, will recount their brave and inspiring stories. The Freeman Poole Senior Center in Smyrna will host guest speaker Raymond Fordyce, 8th Air Force historian, 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12. Fordyce will describe the experiences and sacrifices of WWII aviators of The Greatest Generation, centering on what missions entailed and the challenges faced by the men who flew them. Cobb County will hold its annual Public Safety forum where residents can connect with officials and discuss important issues 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Department of Public Safety Training Center in Austell. Topics will include community trust, response to an active shooter, the future of policing and emerging technology, gun safety, legal carry, community affairs and Hispanic engagement. Lunch will be provided. The training center is located at 2435 East-West Connector in Austell.
Code amendments under consideration
Public hearings are scheduled for proposed amendments to the Official Code of Cobb County. These proposals impact Chapter 50 (Environment), Chapter 110 (Subdivisions), Chapter 122 (Utilities), Chapter 126 (Vehicles for Hire), and Chapter 134 (Zoning).
Board of Commissioners public hearings will be held in the second-floor Commissioners’ Meeting Room, Cobb County Building, 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta on these dates: March 12 - 9 a.m. March 26 - 7 p.m.
It's your lucky month at Cobb Animal Services. All dogs 40 pounds or more are free to adopt during March. All other pets (dogs less than 40 pounds and all cats) cost just $30. Animal Services is located at 1060 Al. Bishop Drive, Marietta. Appointments are preferred for adoptions.
