Keep your plumbing clear of problems

Love your water pipes logo
Water pipes need to be loved too. During this month of love, Cobb County Water System encourages you to consider these tips to keep your water pipes flowing free:

• Properly manage fats, oil, and grease (FOG) in your kitchen – FOG, like ice cream, cheese, peanut butter, gravy, ketchup, and oil sticks to the walls of sewer pipes building up over time, restricting flow of wastewater, which causes backups. Before doing the dishes, scrape leftovers into the trash. Use a sink strainer and avoid using the garbage disposal.
• Only flush bodily wastes and toilet paper – Items like pads, towelettes, cloth, and wipes should never be flushed, even if the products are marked as “flushable.” They do not break down like toilet paper and cause blockages in pipes, resulting in sewer backups.

Caring for your water pipes is an act of love. For more information on FOG best practices, visit cobbcounty.org/water/education/water-quality/home/fog.
