During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation designating May 14-20 as National Police Week in Cobb County. National Police Week honors, remembers and offers peer support while allowing law enforcement, survivors and citizens to honor those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Since the first recorded police death in 1786, more than 23,000 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty. Currently, there are 23,785 names engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The Board of Commissioners invites you to give input on Cobb’s draft strategic plan. The board will hold another public hearing during its May 23 meeting at the county government building, 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta.
After the board considers the additional input, it will vote on the plan's potential adoption in June. A copy of the plan is available to read at cobbcounty.org/StrategicPlan.
Time to break out the bathing suit
Cobb PARKS has two outdoor pools opening in May.
Sewell Park Pool, in Sewell Park, 2051 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta opens May 27 and will be open seven days a week through July. 31. Hours are 1 - 6 p.m., except holidays when it is open 1 -5 p.m. From Aug. 1 - Sept. 4, the pool will be open 1 - 6 p.m. on weekends. Holiday hours are in effect for Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day and Labor Day. Fees are $3.50 for youth, $4.50 for adults and $3 for seniors (55+).
Seven Springs Water Park will open on May 27. We will offer two separate sessions, noon - 3 p.m. and 4 - 7 p.m., seven days a week through Aug.1, then weekends through Labor Day. Fees are $6 for adults, $4 for children and $3 for seniors (55+). Passes are available.
The Cobb County Library System has new Chromebooks available for in-library use. Check out a Chromebook for two hours and renew it if there's no wait. Great for when the computer area is too loud or there are no desktop computers available. Adults age 17 or older may check out a device and photo identification is required.
Cobb County PARKS is seeking food, arts and culture vendors for the 2023 International Festival. The Cobb County International Festival is a celebration of the best traditional food, music and art from around the world in our community. This year’s festival will be held 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Jim R Miller Park Event Center. Vendor applications are due by July 14.
Public meeting offers information on transit study
Join Cobb County Department of Transportation between 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, for a public meeting to learn more about the Cumberland Transit Center Site Feasibility Study. This meeting will be held at the Boy Scouts of America Atlanta Area Council, located at 1800 Circle 75 Parkway, SE, Atlanta.
