Located on eight acres of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex, the 9/11 Memorial is a place of remembrance and contemplation within the bustle of lower Manhattan. The focal points of the Memorial are two pools, each nearly an acre in size, that sit in the footprints of the former North and South Towers.
The Memorial opened on September 11, 2011, 10 years after the 9/11 attacks.
Every year the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund hosts a stair climb event to honor the sacrifice and legacy of the 343 Firefighters who died on 9/11/2001 while climbing the Twin Towers. All proceeds will benefit firefighters and their families in need, throughout the state of Georgia.
Try your hand at butter churning, making a corn husk doll and washing clothes on a washboard at Frontier Day at Green Meadows Preserve 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. The Peachtree Handspinner's Guild will demonstrate spinning and weaving inside the historic house museum, and Cherokee Elder Tony Harris will teach about native plants and their uses at the outdoor classroom. Green Meadows is located at 3780 Dallas Highway, Marietta.
Look for your Cobb County board members in the 2023 East Cobber Parade and Festival on Saturday, Sept. 9. The day’s festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with the parade.
Afterward, join in the fun at the festival in the south parking lot of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Road. The festival will have entertainment, carnival games and good food. Booths will be set up to showcase everything from jewelry to local schools and books.
This is a FREE event for the kiddos to touch, climb, honk and explore the various vehicles/equipment and learn more about the professions that use them.Come check out all the big trucks we could find at Truck-A-Palooza 2023, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.
See, touch, and get into heavy construction vehicles, police cars, fire rescue trucks, SWAT trucks, dump trucks, fire engines, military vehicles and much more. Find it all at the Town Center at Cobb mall in the back parking lot by the food court, 400 Ernest W Barrett Parkway NW, Kennesaw.
The cost is $5 per person; maximum $20 per family (up to six family members). Children under two years are free. Tickets are available at the entrance. All proceeds will benefit the Cobb County Safety Village.
It's all fun and games at the fair
The North Geogia State Fair will return to Cobb County Sept. 21 - Oct. 1 with carnival midway rides, live musical entertainment, petting barns, flower shows, blue ribbon competitions, a wide range of fair foods and more. Bring the family to Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta to experience the fun yourself.
Cobb Senior Services will also host a special Senior Day at the fair on Friday, Sept. 22. Admission, parking, and special activities for seniors are free and will take place 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. before the fair opens. When the fair opens at 4 p.m., everyone age 55 and older will have free admission.
