Wear your Halloween costume and gather the whole family for the PARKS Fall Festival of Fun. The free, drive-thru-style event will be held 4 - 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta.
As you roll through, you'll engage with princesses, dinosaurs, pirates, superheroes and many more of your favorite characters. You'll also see decorated vehicles in the Fun Auto Zone and more throughout the park. Every child will receive a goodie bag from our candy fairies. No need to bring a bag. Brian Lies, award-winning children’s book illustrator and author of the Bats series, will be visiting three Cobb County Public Library locations on Friday, Oct. 27. Dispose of your expired drugs safely
Safely dispose unused and expired medications at a free take-back event 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at two Cobb County locations.

Staff and law enforcement personnel will be on hand to collect medications that will be properly disposed of in compliance with federal law. Medicines and labels do not have to be removed from the containers. The events will accept creams, patches, prescriptions, over-the-counter liquids and pills, ointments, pet medications and vials. There are no limits on quantity.
Items not accepted include aerosol cans, EpiPen, needles and sharps, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing body fluid or blood), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas, etc.), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc.), blister packs, illegal drugs, durable medical equipment (CPAP, nebulizers, etc.) or mercury thermometers.
Wear your favorite costume to Cobb County Police Department's first Trunk-or-Treat event noon - 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at its Marietta headquarters. Enjoy a safe place to trick-or-treat from the trunks of police vehicles and community partners. Enjoy fun Halloween decorations and candy with first responders. The headquarters is located at 545 Fairground Street, Marietta.
Pets, candy and games at Animal Services
Cobb Animal Services will hold its own Trunk-or-Treat event with a furry twist 3 - 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta. This event offers a variety of activities, including free pet adoptions, treats for kids and pets, face painting with spooky designs and an ice cream truck.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will consider amendments to the county’s code this fall, specifically definitions and these chapters:

• 10 - Animals
• 50 - Environment
• 78 - Licenses, permits, and businesses
• 134 - Zoning
Residents can give feedback about these changes during a public hearing 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta.

Find out more about how the opioid epidemic is affecting every community. This epidemic doesn’t see any demographic barriers - it can happen to you or your family. Cobb District Attorney Flynn Broady will host a town hall about the issue 6:30 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the North Cobb Regional Library in Kennesaw. Community partners will provide information and resources to help the community. The library is located at 3535 Old 41 Highway, Kennesaw.
Industry luncheon to provide lessons and opportunities
The Cobb County Economic Development Department invites industry leaders to the bi-annual existing industry luncheon 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Cobblestone Golf Course in Acworth. This event is only open to big industry leaders and commercial businesses located in Cobb County. It will provide an opportunity for industry leaders to connect with county staff, network with neighboring businesses, and learn how Cobb is available to support their business growth and workforce needs. Cobb County Department of Transportation and CobbLinc are conducting surveys to gain your input for new transit centers in Marietta and South Cobb. These transit center site selection studies are for improvements and/or potential relocation of the current Marietta Transfer to accommodate future transit growth as well as the placement of a new transit center in South Cobb.
The centers are expected to enhance connections to the CobbLinc network of public transportation services while also enhancing accessibility to regional and local transportation options.

Free county seminar to help vendors
Learn about vendor opportunities with Cobb County at a free seminar this month. How to do Business with Cobb County Government and Cobb County Schools will be held 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Senior Wellness Center, 1150 Powder Springs Street, Marietta. Registration is required as seats are limited.

Diverse county contracts under study
Learn about Cobb County's study regarding the effectiveness of the county's supplier diversity program. The virtual information meeting, noon on Thursday, Nov. 9, will review the past five years.
The disparity study, conducted by Griffin & Strong P.C., will look at contracts in construction, goods, and services and then recommend modifications or adjustments if needed. The study will also examine the use of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses.
