Due to anticipated cold weather, the winter weather shelter at MUST Ministries will open this week (Monday night, Dec. 18 - Thursday night, Dec. 21). The Hope House shelter is at 1297 Bells Ferry Road, Marietta. People wishing to use the shelter’s resources must report by 8 p.m. Cobb County is partnering with MUST Ministries to get people from across the county to the shelter.

Voters will decide next November whether to fund transit projects through a 30-year sales tax proposal known as a "Mobility SPLOST." Cobb's Department of Transportation Director unveiled the detailed list of projects during a lengthy presentation before the board. Drew Raessler told the board the list was compiled after months of meeting with residents in focus groups and town halls, as well as conversations with stakeholders, local educational leaders, and online surveys.
The list will be prepared to go before voters in the November 2024 election and will be preceded by a robust public outreach effort.

After years of planning and building, there is now a safe place for people to go to get the care they need when leaving destructive and abusive situations. Last week, officials and supporters cut the ribbon on the Cobb County Family Advocacy Center - a central location for crime victims to get assistance. The FAC is designed to address barriers faced by victims, by locating critical service providers under one roof with a coordinated intake process.
The FAC will meet the wide and varied needs of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, stalking, and human trafficking. Read more about the Cobb Family Advocacy Center at CobbFAC.org.

Give feedback about Cobb County's study regarding the effectiveness of the county's supplier diversity program. The first virtual public communication session will be held at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 9. During these public communication sessions, community members can go on record with comments about doing business with the county or its marketplace.

The 2024 Cobb County Disparity Study, conducted by Griffin & Strong P.C., will look at the past five years of contracts in construction, goods, and services- including architecture and engineering services- and then recommend modifications or adjustments if needed. The study will also examine the use of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses.

Celebrate the start of 2024 without staying up til midnight! Switzer Library is throwing a Noon Year's Eve party, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, at 266 Roswell Street, Marietta. There will be crafts, music, and a countdown to noon. No registration is needed for this event.

Make a resolution to learn to save a life
Take time to learn to save loved ones in an emergency at Family and Friends CPR. This course will teach you lifesaving CPR for adults, children, and babies and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator, also known as an AED. You will also learn basic techniques for helping someone who is choking.
The next class dates are at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Thursday, March 14.
Note: This course does NOT offer an American Heart Association completion card. There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee per person to reserve your seat. The Cobb County Safety Village is located at 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta.
