Seniors can learn more about the proposed Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax at a briefing 10 a.m. - noon Friday, June 28, at Sewell Mill Library in Marietta. The Cobb Department of Transportation will lead the discussion regarding the MSPLOST proposal that will be voted on in November and describe how it may benefit seniors in the county.
The Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County is hosting this event where attendees may ask questions and share their concerns directly with county officials. The council encourages as many seniors as possible to participate to ensure their voices are heard and their transportation needs are addressed. Sewell Mill Library is located at 2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta.
The Cobb Water System recently announced that the county's drinking water has met or exceeds federal and state quality standards. Officials said there were no Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Act violations to report. Permit fee changes for Georgia
Cobb County will be changing the way permitting fees are calculated. Fees will no longer be calculated solely based on job costs. In accordance with House Bill 461, the updated fee schedule is calculated based on square footage and flat fees. This change will take effect on Monday, July 1.
Cobb Chairwoman Lisa Cupid will host a discussion on LGBTQ+ Pride Month 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at 100 Cherokee Street NE, Marietta on the 2nd floor in the Board of Commissioners meeting room. This in-person event is an opportunity to connect with others in the community and share experiences. The discussion will allow participants to learn, listen, and show their support. Light refreshments will be served.
Chill in Mableton this weekend at an Evening of R&B featuring performances including Midnight Star, SOS Band, Miki Howard and Glenn Jones at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre 7 p.m. Saturday, June 29.

Senior markets return next week
Seniors over 60 can get some food relief starting in July. Cobb County Senior Services is hosting farmers markets around the county for qualifying seniors who will receive $50 on a market benefit card for produce. One voucher per household per summer. Space is limited, so you MUST call to reserve your market benefit card at 770-528-1060. The dates and locations for next month are:

West Cobb Senior Center, 4915 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs
• Friday, July 19 - 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Golfweek, a premier national golf magazine, has rated Cobblestone Golf Course the 14th best public golf course in the state of Georgia. Located alongside Lake Acworth, Cobblestone is a long-standing favorite of Metro Atlanta golfers. Owned by Cobb County and operated by Bobby Jones Links, Cobblestone is one of the most popular public courses in North Atlanta.
Cobblestone opened in 1993 and was fully renovated in 2010. Most recently, the clubhouse expanded and new practice areas were constructed in 2021. Offering Champion Bermuda greens, white sand bunkers and a lakefront Ken Dye design, Cobblestone has racked up accolades over the years. The awards included a four-star rating by Golf Digest and a spot on the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” by Golf Magazine.
South Cobb Recreation Center
Meals are being served to children at the South Cobb Recreation Center throughJuly 12. Georgia Educational Resources, Inc. is providing free breakfast and lunch on weekdays to children 18 and younger. Library locations
Free, nutritious meals through July 26 are offered on a first-come, first-served basis at two libraries on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:
• South Cobb Regional Library, 805 Clay Road, Mableton
• North Cobb Regional Library, 3535 Old 41 Highway, Kennesaw
No meals will be served Friday, July 5. Breakfast is available 10 - 10:30 a.m. and lunch is served 11:30 a.m. - noon. The meals are free for children ages 18 and younger. Adults 19 years and older who are enrolled in school programs for persons with disabilities will also receive meals. Parents and caregivers must remain with the children during the meals. Mini golf course makes puttering fun
Bring your putting skills to a miniature golf course at the Cobb Civic Center. The course will be open through July 27 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Closed Sundays. Admission is $10 per person. For questions email nicohlas.wilson@cobbcounty.org.

Cobb families still have the chance to see Bluey in person through the Adventures with Bluey and Dewey Trivia Contest now through June 30, presented by Cobb County Public Library and sponsored by Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre's ArtsBridge Foundation.
Uncover trivia questions hidden with Dewey's and Bluey's paw prints across all 15 library locations and the Cobb Library Bookmobile. Children can answer trivia, earn stamps from library staff, and enter for a chance to win four free tickets to Bluey’s Big Play show at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on July 13 or 14.
Pick up a "library trivia passport" from any library location, hunt for paw prints, fill the passport with trivia answers, and collect three stamps to submit for a chance to win. Open to children and teens up to age 17, this is an opportunity for family fun and learning.
International Fest still accepting vendors
Cobb's annual International Festival brings together sights, sounds, and tastes from around the world. This showcase is your opportunity to show off your handmade goods and imports, talents, food, art, and share your culture with the community. The event will be held 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Jim R. Miller Park and Event Center.
As part of planned renovations that include resurfacing pools, the Mountain View Aquatic Center in Marietta will be closed July 1 - Sept. 30. It will reopen to public swimming in October. The Cobb County Central Aquatic Center in Marietta, which is finishing its makeover, will reopen Monday, July 1.
The West Cobb Aquatic Center in Powder Springs will be closed for its renovation Feb. 1 - April 30, 2025.

From Monday, July 1, through Friday, Aug. 2, the Austell Senior Center will be undergoing renovations to create a better space for you. The upgrades include a new activity room. While workers transform the center, activities will be relocated to Marietta and Freeman Poole Senior Centers.
