Following the first public hearings on the Fiscal Year 2025 biennial budget, Cobb Finance and Communications Departments have unveiled this year's Budget in Brief document.

Residents are invited to attend the remaining budget public hearings at the Board of Commissioners meeting room at 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta. These will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23. They will also be streamed live on CobbTV's YouTube channel located here.
Wine Down Wednesday, the free concert series at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, will host an evening of Mexican and Latin music 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
Musicians Luis Coronel, Willie Zaivino and The COT Band will perform at this rain or shine event. Residents should RSVP to get their free tickets or upgrade to a table seat for $20 and minimal fees. Gates open at 6 p.m. The Amphitheatre is located at 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton.
Low water levels have caused county officials to reschedule the remaining Cobb County fishing rodeos planned for this month.
Originally, the Saturday events were scheduled at Ebenezer Downs Park and Furr Family Park. The county hopes to hold these events and hold them in the fall.
Grammy-nominated duo performs Saturday
Blend genres for your listening pleasure with the classical/hip hop duo Black Violin performing at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre 8 p.m. Saturday, July 20. The pair were nominated for a Grammy last year in the Best Americana Performance category for the track “The Message”. In 2020, they received a Best Contemporary Instrumental Album nomination for their recording "Take the Stairs".

Get free products, food, resources and services at Cobb and Douglas Public Health Farmers Market and Resource Fairs in July and August. There will be fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs.

5K event to benefit emergency personnel
Help those who run to help you with Cobb County's First Responder 5K on Saturday, Aug. 17, at The Battery Atlanta. Participants can walk, jog, or run either in-person or virtually. This family-friendly event for all fitness levels will include first responder vehicles and displays, field games with The Atlanta Braves' mascot Blooper, and a performance from the Braves Heavy Hitters.
This year participants will receive a dry-fit T-shirt with registration price. They must register by today, July 15, to guarantee their T-shirt size. This event is a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race.

Recycled Art Contest - Students in grades 6 - 12 can enter the Keep Cobb Beautiful annual Recycling Craft Contest. Make an art piece out of recycled materials. Bring the art to Switzer Library on Wednesday, July 17, and prepare to tell a panel of judges about your art. There will be prizes! Read more and enter here.
Donations of new school supplies are being collected at an event hosted by KIDS CARE and Keep Cobb Beautiful 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Cobb Civic Center. When you bring a donation, you will get free admission to play mini golf inside the Civic Center. While you're there, meet Rosie, the Cobb District Attorney's support dog, and drop off your household recycling items. Cans will be collected as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. Class up your knowledge with Cobb 101
Learn more about Cobb County Government in Cobb 101, The Citizen's Government Academy. Apply now to enroll in the 11-week course offering an in-depth look at the many facets of county government. Sessions will be held at different government buildings, offering participants a firsthand look at how the county serves its residents.
The class is limited to 32 Cobb residents or business owners who are at least 18 years old. Applications are available online through July 24. The first class is Aug. 8.
There will be a seminar on downsizing, decluttering and home safety for seniors 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Switzer Library in Marietta. Expert speakers include Roxie Hernandez, a relocation specialist, and Linda Kaplan, a consultant who has been awarded the highest distinction in Senior Move Management from the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers.
The event will focus on on downsizing, particularly for those moving from a residence of more than 20 years, as well as rightsizing and decluttering for those who are planning to remain in their homes. Entry is free, but participants must register here.
Naturally training to work the land
UGA Extension in Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding Counties are hosting a Master Naturalist Training program that provides comprehensive training. Registration deadline is Aug. 23.
This nine-day program consists of weekly field trips with in-depth lectures from regional experts on a wide variety of environmental and ecological topics. The program dates are every Friday in September and every Thursday in October including an overnight on Oct. 24 -25. The program days are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Transportation is provided to and from all locations.
Deadline to be a part of International Fest arrives next week
Cobb's annual International Festival brings together sights, sounds, and tastes from around the world. This showcase is your opportunity to show off your handmade goods and imports, talents, food, art, and share your culture with the community. The event will be held 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Jim R. Miller Park and Event Center.
There will be multiple sites for National Night Out in Cobb County Tuesday, Aug. 6. This annual event promotes law enforcement and community partnerships as well as neighborhood camraderie. There will be fun, food and festivities. Locations and times include:

A ceremony recently unveiled the 34th "Bench by the Road" in Cobb County. It's part of the Toni Morrison Foundation's effort to honor nearly 4,000 enslaved people of Cobb County, including Matilda Ruff and her family.
Chairwoman Lisa Cupid recently welcomed dozens of representatives from metro Atlanta consulates to the TKE tower to discuss the upcoming International Festival. A growing number of countries say they'll participate this year.
