County offices closed for holiday
Cobb County Government offices will close in recognition of Labor Day, Sept. 2. We hope everyone will be able to spend a relaxing time with their loved ones and friends this holiday weekend. Stay safe and have fun. Many county services will remain available online at cobbcounty.org.
Swim times vary for Labor Day weekend
Residents who want to take a final summer dip this Labor Day weekend should check the hours of their nearest Cobb swimming facility before they load up the towels.
Seven Springs Water Park in Powder Springs will be open for its regular times through Labor Day.
Sewell Pool in Marietta will be open 1 - 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 1 - 5 p.m. Labor Day.
Central, South Cobb and West Cobb Aquatic Centers will be closed Labor Day.
Mountain View Aquatic Center remains closed for renovations until Oct. 1.
One more public hearing is scheduled for proposed code amendments. The Board of Commissioners will consider amendments to the Official Code of Cobb County, Part I. – Chapter 78: Licenses, Permits, and Businesses, including those related to hosting the Major League Baseball All-Star Game next year.
The Board of Commissioners second public hearing date is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27.
The hearing will take place at 100 Cherokee Street, 2nd floor meeting room. Many public meetings and hearings are broadcast live on CobbTV and YouTube and are available on demand on YouTube.
Become prepared to help others
This is your chance to join Cobb's CERT community, a vital part of our community's safety network. As a member of the Community Emergency Response Team, you'll play a crucial role in assisting in disaster response situations and protecting and serving your fellow community members.
To become a CERT member, you must complete three training sessions on consecutive Saturdays. Cobb County Emergency Management Agency has three opportunities to complete the upcoming training. Each session runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a lunch break.
The dates of upcoming training are: Sept. 7, 14, and 21
Oct. 5, 12, and 19
Nov. 2, 9, and 16
Applicants must follow up by emailing Bernard.king@Cobbcounty.org with a photo of their driver’s license and indicate which month they want to attend this preparedness training.
Pick your team, support senior meals
Cobb County employees are dinking and volleying in an epic mixed doubles pickleball competition 1 - 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, to raise funds for Meals on Wheels. Come watch the paddles fly at Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road SW, Marietta. You can help too! Your donation can help ensure our Cobb seniors receive the meals they need.
The board also set election dates for Cobb Board of Commissioners Districts 2 and 4. Earlier this year, a judge ordered a special election in those two districts as part of a challenge over district maps and qualifications.
The Senior Citizen Council of Cobb will celebrate National Senior Citizens Day with a Sept. 11 luncheon featuring live entertainment and the awarding of Lifetime Achievement Proclamation plaques by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners to several exceptional Cobb senior citizens.
The 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. event will take place at the Piedmont Church Conference Center, 570 Piedmont Road, Marietta. Attendees must register by Aug. 31 and prepay the $10 fee. Seating is limited. Performers will include Willie Brown and Friends, the Good Times Band and the Twilight Twirlers of Marietta.
Microchipping your pets is an essential step in ensuring their safety and increasing the chances of being reunited with them if they ever go missing or get stolen. Cobb County Animal Services wants to microchip your cats, dogs, birds and rabbits. RSVP to Jessica.Darrough@cobbcounty.org today to have your pet microchipped 3 - 7 p.m., Sept. 16.
Cobb and Douglas Public Health, using an American Rescue Plan Act grant, will provide a one-time water bill credit of up to $250 to primary Cobb homeowners who get their septic tanks pumped.
Homeowners who participate in the program will receive a credit of up to $250, based on the actual cost of service, after having their septic tank pumped by a state-approved provider. Eligible services must be completed by Sept. 30, 2026 or until grant funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
Cobb 911 will be having a busy day Saturday, Sept. 7, but not for emergencies. It's the 911 Kids Expo at Cobb 911 headquarters. Come by 10 a.m. - noon and learn safety tips such as when to dial 911, see how dispatchers answer calls and you may even get to talk to first responders on the radio. You may also spot Turbo the 911 tortoise. It all happens at 140 North Marietta Parkway, Marietta.

Get revved up for family fun at Cool Cars and Cops, a community event presented by the Cobb Police Department to support SWAT Santa. Stop by 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta.

Save the date to help grant wishes
On Oct. 5, Cobb County will host the Make-A-Wish 5K, a run that raises money to help grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. The race is a Peachtree Road Race qualifying event. Participants will assemble on the Marietta Square, and the race begins at 8 a.m. Walk-up registration begins at 7 a.m.

Cobb Elections hosted a security meeting to bring together law enforcement and critical stakeholders from across the county. The groups discussed the November general election, how they can work together, and went through several scenarios that could disrupt precincts.
The 2024 version of Cobb's International Festival attracted record crowds, as thousands came to the Jim R. Miller Park Event Center. Those in attendance watched performances, sampled food, and soaked in demonstrations from a wide variety of cultures that make up Cobb County.
