Cobb County has launched a new webpage to inform voters about the Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum, which will be on the ballot during the General Election on Nov. 5.
The website, cobbcounty.org/msplost, provides detailed information about the MSPLOST program, including the ballot language and the potential impacts on the community.
The MSPLOST program aims to address Cobb County’s growing population and economy by enhancing the public transportation system to be safer, more flexible, and more reliable. If approved by voters, the one-cent sales tax will provide dedicated funding for operational improvements and service expansion.
Court emergency extended
Chief Judge A. Gregory Poole of the Cobb Judicial Circuit extended the Judicial Emergency within the Superior Court of Cobb County for 30 days. The Judicial Emergency will now expire on Oct. 6. While the situation in the Clerk’s Office regarding document availability has improved, a significant backlog remains. Some documents dating as far back as November 2023 remain unindexed.
This does NOT impact the State Court, Juvenile Court, Magistrate Court, or Probate Court of Cobb County or any of the several municipal courts within Cobb County.
Following the Aug. 27 Board of Commissioners meeting, county staff removed links and images of the “home rule” commission map from the county website. These have been replaced with the district map approved by the state legislature.
The change was made after a recent ruling by a Superior Court judge, which declared the use of home rule powers to draw a commission map unconstitutional. Staff is now working to remove references to the previous map from applications and work products, a process that may take several days.
During the meeting, board members also declined to pass a resolution declaring the District 2 seat vacant, allowing Commissioner Jerica Richardson to continue serving as the District 2 representative.
