Wednesday concert to close the season

Enjoy an Evening of Symphonic Soul and Comedy with The String Queens and comedian Henry Welch at the free Wine Down Wednesday event 7 p.m., Oct. 9, in the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. Gates open at 6 p.m. The amphitheatre is located at 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton.

Please note: The Evening of R&B with Stephanie Mills and The Whispers originally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, has been cancelled. If you purchased tickets online through Ticketmaster, they have begun the refund process. It can take up to 30 business days for these refunds to be processed into your account.
If you purchased tickets directly through othe amphitheatre box office, staff has begun to process refunds and these may take up to 30 business days.

Harvest Fest makes history for attendees

Step back in time and experience 19th-century farm life at the Mable House Harvest Festival 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, sponsored by the Friends of the Mable House, 5239 Floyd Road SW, Mableton.

Experience history with demonstrations and hands-on activities including blacksmithing, pickling, pottery, weaving, butter-churning, candle making, letter stamping, and corn husk doll crafting. Tots will have storytime and crafts at the Sweet Potato House.

There will be games, a petting zoo and entertainers. Gardeners can pick up heirloom seeds and planting tips at a seed swap. Parking and entry are free. Food vendors will have snacks for purchase.

Get your costume without high costs

Trick or Treaters in costume

A free October Costume Swap this week at Mountain View Library will help reduce the stress, cost, and environmental impact of finding the right seasonal outfit. Donate your old costumes and accessories or shop the swap to find a new look for your next holiday or cosplay event.

Drop off costumes by Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Mountain View Regional Library, The Space Shop, or Mi Studio Salon.

Shop the Swap 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Saturday, Oct. 12, Mountain View Library, 3320 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta. A donation is not required to participate in the swap event. Click here to reserve your place​​. All ages are welcome. Any remaining costumes will be delivered to Cobb County charities. The event is sponsored by the Mountain View Regional Library, My Green Earth and Kennesaw State University’s Owl Swap.

Event to offer resources for veterans

Veterans, active duty personnel, National Guard members, Reserve service members, caregivers, families, and survivors are all invited to Georgia's largest veteran resource fair. The annual We CARE Vet Fair, presented by United Military Care, will take place Nov. 1 - 2 at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta.

Admission and parking are free. Enjoy a complementary lunch while supplies last. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Officials with Veterans Affairs and the state Department of Veteran Services will be present both days. Vendors, organizations and other agencies will only be on site Friday.

Block party and briefing offered to the public

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office will hold an End of Year Community Briefing 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Kennesaw State University Center. The briefing, led by Sheriff Craig Owens, will include a question and answer session. There will also be a block party with a DJ, student performances, community displays, food and activities. Attendees can also meet the four-legged members of the Mounted and K-9 units. The center is located at 3333 Busbee Drive, Kennesaw. 

Friday deadline for waterSmart art contest

Cobb County and City of Marietta School District's middle school students are invited to use their talent to create a 2-D work of art for the 15th annual waterSmart waterArt Calendar Contest. Artwork should be made in landscape orientation using the student's medium of choice including, but not limited to, colored pencils, paint, crayons, photo collage, or mixed mediums.

Along with the submitted pieces, students must turn in a 50-word statement explaining how their art answers the question, "How is water important to me?" Winning entries will be included in the 2025 waterSmart Calendar. Submissions are due by Friday, Oct. 11. Complete rules and more information are found on our website. This contest is a partnership between Cobb County Water System and the Cobb County - Marietta Water Authority.

► KCB will hold another Pop-up Drop-off Recycling event at the Harvest Festival, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12. Bring your everyday household recycling to 5239 Floyd Road, SW, Mableton.

► Paint Recycling
Just paint. That's what you can recycle at the Cobb County Paint Recycling/Amnesty Collection event, 9 a.m. - noon, Saturday, Oct. 19 at Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road SW, Marietta. Limit 10 gallons of paint per vehicle. Registration is required. More information and registration here.

Attendees look at items at library book sale

Cobb County has partnered with FindHelp to create a new online resource that connects residents with local, vetted assistance programs. On the site, you can search for free or reduced-cost services like medical care, food, job training, and more. Residents can access this new portal by visiting findhelp.cobbcounty.gov. The initiative is funded through an allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act.

Get tasty treats, go on hayrides, and enjoy a petting zoo, inflatable rides, food trucks, arts, crafts, and a haunted house at The Fall Festival of Fun 5 - 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Jim R. Miller Park. Entry and parking are free. Jim R. Miller Park is located at 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta.

If you dare, enter the Cobb PARKS Haunted House 5 - 9 p.m. Wednesday - Saturday, Oct. 23 - 26. Creep through squeaky doors and eerie shadows. Walk through a world of terror and thrills. The terrifying nightmare maze will leave you shaking with fear. Can you make it through?

Fundraising party to benefit LiveSafe

Cobb Solicitor General Makia Metzger is presenting a Sneaker Ball Fundraising event to support the life saving mission of protecting survivors of crime. LiveSafe Resources based here in Marietta will be the beneficiary. The event will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at a location to be released once a ticket has been purchased.
