Seven Cobb County libraries will serve as polling sites and will be closed on Election Day: Switzer, Mountain View, South Cobb, West Cobb, Sewell Mill, Vinings, and Gritters (which continues to be closed). All other library branches will remain open.

Veterans, active duty personnel, National Guard members, Reserve service members, caregivers, families, and survivors are all invited to Georgia's largest veteran resource fair. The annual We CARE Vet Fair, presented by United Military Care, will take place Nov. 1 - 2 at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta.
Admission and parking are free. Enjoy a complimentary lunch while supplies last. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Officials with Veterans Affairs and the state Department of Veteran Services will be present both days. Vendors, organizations and other agencies will only be on site Friday.
Residents can still join Cobb's Community Emergency Response Team, a vital part of our county's safety network. To become a CERT member, you must complete three training sessions on consecutive Saturdays. Each session runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a lunch break. The dates for upcoming training are Nov. 2, 9, and 16.
Daylight Savings Time comes to an end the morning of Sunday, Nov. 3. Residents should make sure their clocks that require setting are turned back an hour before going to bed Saturday night.
The public should also use this weekend to replace the batteries in their smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. These safety measures won't protect your family if they can't sound the alarm.
Lessons in county government
Congratulations to this year's graduates of the Cobb 101 Citizens Government Academy. Each received their diplomas last Thursday. The 11-week course provides an in-depth look at county government departments such as emergency services, law enforcement, planning, zoning, finance, court systems, public works, as well as parks and recreation.

Geographic Awareness Week is just around the corner, which means Cobb County Geographic Information System will once again host a free GIS Day Celebration 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta. Attendees can meet with staff members to learn about maps and GIS. There will be games, door prizes, presentations and refreshments.

The fun, artsy annual Holiday Inspirations program will be presented by Leah Wilson and Terri Carter 10 a.m. - noon Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Cobb County Extension office in Marietta.

Food drive to help the community
The Center for Family Resources is collecting non-perishable food during its annual Thanks for Giving food drive. The goal is to provide 1,000 Cobb families with food for the Thanksgiving school break.
The CFR is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting Cobb families facing homelessness and equipping them with resources to achieve self-sufficiency.
For donations of food, drop off your non-perishable food items through Nov. 15 at the Cobb Family Advocacy Center, 277 SE Fairground Street, Marietta.

Assistance just a click away
Cobb County has partnered with FindHelp to create a new online resource that connects residents with local, vetted assistance programs. On the site, you can search for free or reduced-cost services like medical care, food, job training, and more. Residents can access this new portal by visiting findhelp.cobbcounty.gov. The initiative is funded through an allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act.
