Fraud class teaches the warning signs

The West Cobb Regional Library will host a Fraud Awareness and Prevention session in partnership with the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, 5 - 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane, Kennesaw. The Cobb Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division will provide insights into understanding fraud, learning effective prevention strategies, and recognizing red flags.

Plan amendments up for review

The 2025 Comprehensive Plan Amendments and Future Land Use Amendments are available for review and download on the Community Development page on the website here.

Share your talents for MLK celebration

Audition to perform in the Cobb NAACP 2025 MLK Day Celebration. The event is open to all musicians, singers, dancers, rappers, spoken word performers and more. Showcase your individual talents and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Auditions will be held at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre at these days and times:

  • 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9
  • 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11

The MLK Day Celebration event will be held 10 a.m. - noon, Monday, Jan. 20, at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. For more information, call 770-425-5757.

Grant applications sought for emergency program

The Cobb County Community Development Block Grant Program Office is accepting funding applications for Phase 42 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program until Friday, Jan. 17.

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program is a federal program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and eligible activities include: emergency rent/mortgage/utility assistance, mass shelter, supplies/equipment, served meals, support services, and rehabilitation/repairs.

Nonprofits applying for EFSP funding are required to have at least two years of experience directly related to the proposed activity. Prospective applicants should attend the Application Workshop to learn more about the program and minimum requirements.

A virtual application workshop will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8. Register for the workshop here.

Making connections with fellow veterans

Are you a veteran age 55 or older? Join other vets each month for an informal get-together with coffee, doughnuts, camaraderie, and special guest presentations. Join us at 10 a.m. each month at one of the senior centers below:

  • Second Tuesdays at the Freeman Poole Senior Center, 4025 South Hurt Road, Smyrna
  • Second Wednesdays at Senior Wellness Center, 1150 Powder Springs Street, Marietta
  • Third Wednesdays at Tim Lee Senior Center, 3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta
  • Fourth Thursdays at North Cobb Senior Center, 4100 S. Main Street, Acworth

Findhelp.cobbcounty.gov

Cobb County has partnered with FindHelp to create a new online resource that connects residents with local, vetted assistance programs. On the site, you can search for free or reduced-cost services like medical care, food, job training, and more. Residents can access this new portal by visiting findhelp.cobbcounty.gov. The initiative is funded through an allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act.
