Offices, facilities closed for holidays

Cobb County Government offices are closed Friday, April 18
All Cobb County Government offices will be closed Friday, April 18, in observance of the Good Friday holiday. We hope you enjoy a fun and safe weekend with your family, friends and loved ones.

Cobb public facilities will also be closed Sunday, April 20, in observance of the Easter holiday. Open areas at Cobb parks will still be available for your enjoyment. Police chief retiring after decades with county

Cobb County recently celebrated Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer and his remarkable 35 years of service with the Cobb County Police Department. VanHoozer is retiring after more than three decades as a steady presence and respected leader. His commitment to public safety, innovation, and the people of Cobb County has made a lasting difference. 

Find your next career at Tuesday job fair

Get your resume in order and dress for success for a county-wide job fair 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Cobb Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway SE, Marietta.

Meet representatives from Kennesaw, Smyrna, Acworth, Town Center Community, Powder Springs, Marietta, Austell, Mableton, and Cobb County. No pre-registration is needed. Just show up and be interview-ready.

Cobbworks/WorkSource Cobb offers reemployment and retraining services for those transitioning from federal or other employment with federally-funded programs. Go to worksourcegaportal.com for more information.

Master Gardener plant sale this weekend

The Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County will hold its 25th annual Plant Sale and Expo 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 18 - 19, at the Jim R. Miller Park Equestrian Arena in Marietta.

Learn about locally grown plants, browse through gently-used goods at a yard sale and shop from over 90 artisans at Jim Miller Park’s covered arena. Plants, gardening supplies, bird and bee products, yard art, personal and home goods, crafts, pottery, food, and more will be available. The event will be held rain or shine. Free admission and free parking.

Advance voting for district seats starts Saturday

Advance voting for the Cobb County special election for two commission seats begins Saturday, April 19. In District 2, Democrat Erick Allen faces Republican Alicia Adams. Candidates in the District 4 race are Democratic incumbent Monique Sheffield and Republican Matthew Hardwick. Only registered voters residing in Districts 2 and 4 are eligible to cast their ballots in this special election.

• Advance voting continues Monday - Friday, April 21 - 25. There is no voting April 26 - 28.
• Election day is April 29 and voters must vote only at their precinct.

Cobb County Purchasing staff will host the next "How to Do Business with Cobb County Government" webinar at noon, Monday, April 21. This free informational series features a single Cobb County department sharing details about the department, current/future procurement needs and specific points of contact. The April webinar will highlight the Cobb County Department of Transportation (Road Maintenance Division) and available business opportunities.

The upcoming Senior Services Annual Expo will be a day filled with resources, connections, and valuable information.  Mark your calendar for 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta. Admission and parking are free and the first 400 households will receive a bag of free produce.

Discover a variety of vendors offering services in life enrichment, transportation, nutrition, senior living, Medicare, wellness, safety, and much more. Plus, Northside Hospital will be providing free health screenings, and we’ll have informative seminars on important topics throughout the day.

The Cobb PARKS Spring Arts Festival is your gateway to fun. Take a stroll along the artist's way, see a variety of handmade goods, fine arts and crafts, soak in the energy of performing artists and groups, and play at creative demos and activities 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at Jim R. Miller Park and Events Center, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta.

Adventure awaits at Camp Puzzle, a fun-filled, energy-packed, half-day experience for children and adults on the Autism spectrum. The free event will be held at the Cobb Safety Village, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. There will be fire trucks, police cars, crafts and activities. Find more information and register here.

Fishing offers family fun

Grab your fishing gear and try to reel in the big one at the Kids Fishing Rodeo at Hyde Farm Park 9 a.m - 11 a.m Saturday, April 26. Kids aged 3 - 16, along with their parent or guardian, can partake in a thrilling fishing adventure. The event will happen rain or shine. Register for $5 via here.🐟

Don't flush them. Keep medications out of the water supply and safely dispose of unused and expired medications by bringing them to any one of these three locations on Medication Take-back Day, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26:
• Police Precinct 1: 2380 Cobb Parkway NW, Kennesaw
• Freeman Poole Senior Center: 4025 S. Hurt Road NW, Smyrna
• Tim D. Lee Senior Center: 3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta.

Get help for yourself or loved ones

Findhelp.cobbcounty.gov is the county's new resource making it easier to find local, vetted assistance programs. Cobb residents can get assistance and a leg up with many of the county's nonprofit partners. 

On the site, you can search for free or reduced-cost services like medical care, food, job training, and more. Access this new portal at findhelp.cobbcounty.gov. The initiative is funded through an allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act.
