Spike in local fraud cases
The Cobb Sheriff's office urges residents to stay vigilant amid rising sophisticated, aggressive scam activity. From identity theft to phone and computer scams, criminals are finding new ways to exploit residents, and many of the victims are among our most vulnerable citizens.
Recent cases include high-pressure phone calls demanding payment or personal information, fake emails that appear to be from trusted institutions, and schemes targeting seniors with convincing but false claims. The common thread: urgency, fear, and deception.
Here’s what you can do to protect yourself:
Stop and think. Never share personal or financial information with someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
Verify the source. If you receive a suspicious call, email, or message, hang up or close it—and contact the business or agency directly using a trusted number or website.
Report suspicious activity. If something doesn’t feel right, call the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fraud and Forgery Unit at 770-499-4752.
Stay one step ahead of scammers by learning about the latest tactics. Visit consumer.gov for up-to-date tips and resources, and download the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office App for alerts and community updates.

Jeans make social statement on Wednesday
Wear Denim on Wednesday, April 30 and join Cobb District Attorney Sonya Allen in support of victims of sexual violence.
Denim Day was established in response to global public outrage following a 1999 ruling by the Italian Supreme Court that overturned a rape conviction. The justices argued that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have assisted in removing them, which they considered a sign of consent.
