In a special-called meeting June 2, Cobb’s Board of Commissioners approved two agenda items that will form a short-term intergovernmental agreement between the county and the new City of Mableton.
“I’m grateful we were able to move forward with the service delivery agreements with Mableton,” Chairwoman Lisa Cupid said following the meeting. “We now have a framework to provide services within the city without the threat of losing our qualified local government status.”
State law requires cities that do not provide all services to their residents to have agreements in place to ensure that the essential government services they wish to provide continue. Beginning June 1, Mableton assumed full responsibility for three services: zoning and code enforcement, business licensing and permitting and waste management.
Rather than committing to a long-term arrangement, both sides agreed to a one-year agreement. This approach allows time to evaluate how the IGAs function and to work toward a longer-term solution. Go here for more details.
New bus route changes ride to Atlanta
Commuters along the I-75 North corridor will have a different route and ride option starting Monday, June 16, as CobbLinc and ATL Xpress consolidate five current routes into a single, modified Route 484. The revamped service will use two park-and-ride locations — Hickory Grove and Town Center — offering direct trips to Midtown Atlanta with a consistent 30-minute frequency during peak hours.
While Acworth and Woodstock park-and-rides will no longer be directly served, riders can shift to nearby park-and-ride alternative lots just seven to 10 minutes away. Transportation officials say this simplification will help reduce confusion and improve the overall commuter experience.
In addition, CobbLinc's commuter routes (100, 101, and 102) will be discontinued, further centralizing service. All current CobbLinc riders will transition to ATL Xpress Route 484 for their trips to Atlanta. Go here for more information.
