Please join Cobb County Chairwoman Lisa Cupid at the 2023 State of the County, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. During the evening, she will recognize those who are ALL IN for Cobb, demonstrating integrity, inclusiveness, investment in others, innovation, and intelligent decision-making for the county.
 
Come early for a reception. Doors are open at the Cobb Civic Center from 6:15 - 7 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. Both facilities are located at 548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta.

Summer burning ban begins today

Fire
No burn season begins Monday in Cobb. Open burning is banned May 1 - Sept. 30.  You may not burn leaves, tree limbs or other yard waste, forest land or use air curtain destructors for land clearing.

Library offers Tuesday vaccination event

Join the West Cobb Library for "VAX in the Stacks: Flu and COVID vaccines" with the Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 2. 

Those receiving a COVID vaccine will get a $50 gift card. The event will offer Pfizer and Moderna, first and second doses, Bivalent booster; ages 5 and up. The West Cobb Library is located at 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane, Kennesaw.

Special ticket sale this week for anniversary concert

Cobb PARKS’s Mable House Amphitheater is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023. The kickoff concert features Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken, who also celebrate 20 years of performing, taking the Mable House stage on Saturday, May 6.

To mark the anniversaries, Cobb PARKS kicks off a ticket special starting today, May 1, offering 20 pairs of tickets for the discounted price of $20 apiece. Disadvantaged business outreach event offered online

May the fourth be with you

Star Wars Day
May the fourth be with you! Come to South Cobb Regional Library 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, for a family friendly Star Wars themed storytime with crafts and activities. The event will have craft activities for preschool, school age, and tween participants. South Cobb Regional Library is located at 805 Clay Rd, Mableton.

Town hall to discuss family advocacy center and more

Save the date for an upcoming town hall meeting with District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr. 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the South Cobb Regional Library. Get updates on the Cobb Family Advocacy Center, its purpose and other info that affects you. There will be time for questions and answers. Meeting is open to all.

Learn CPR with Cobb 

CPR
There are several spaces open for Family and Friends CPR Course 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. May 11, at the Cobb Safety Village, 1220 Al Bishop Dr, Marietta.
This course provides instruction on:
  • Adult/Child/Infant CPR 
  • Adult/Child/Infant choking
  • Use of an AED in Adult/Child
  • Stopping the bleed in a severely injured person.
This course does NOT offer an American Heart Association completion card. There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee per person to reserve your seat. Ages 12 and up can attend (children must be accompanied by a paying adult).

Take self-defense into your own hands

Learn to protect yourself at Cobb's Women's Self-Defense seminars. This month's class will be held 6 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Ward Recreation Center. This course is appropriate for ages 6 and up. Fee: $25.

Register your short term rental properties 

Short term rental
Do you rent your property on AirBnB? VRBO? All short-term rental properties (30 days or less for vacation or other) must register with the Cobb County Business License Office. The goal is to minimize adverse effects on surrounding residential neighborhoods.

Free concert series starts next week

Wine down
Get into the summer groove at a new free Summer concert series, Wine Down Wednesdays, at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. There will be one each month — May 10, June 14, July 18, Aug. 9, Sept. 13 and Oct. 11 — all at 8 p.m. Come and enjoy the vibes of the season with local talent. The Wine Down on May 10 features music by Forever Young.

General admission is free and VIP tables are available for purchase. You can purchase food and drinks or bring your own.

Take the guesswork out of pre-owned pets! Our pets are combo and heartworm tested, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered. Stop by our adoption trailer 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, May 8, and Monday, May 22, at 1060 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta. Pets featured in the trailer are free to adopt!
